Honorable Mary Sheffield of Detroit's City Council along with Superintendent Dr. N. Vitti visits us!

We are still reflecting on the inspiring visit in January from the Honorable Mary Sheffield of Detroit’s City Council, alongside DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti. Their presence at Pershing High School was not just a visit — it was a meaningful moment for our scholars.

The excitement throughout the building was undeniable. Students were smiling, taking pictures, asking questions, and proudly sharing their aspirations. Many of them referred to Council President Sheffield as a “celebrity,” and in their eyes, she truly was. For our scholars, seeing a respected public official who represents their city and community in person made government and leadership feel real, accessible, and attainable.

Moments like these matter. When students have the opportunity to meet leaders face-to-face, it expands their vision of what is possible. It shows them that leadership does not live only on television or social media — it lives in their own neighborhoods, their own city, and potentially within themselves.

Superintendent Dr. Vitti’s continued engagement with Pershing reinforces the district’s commitment to academic excellence, equity, and student achievement. His visit, along with Council President Sheffield’s, demonstrated a united front in support of our scholars and their future.

Exposure creates inspiration. Inspiration fuels ambition. And ambition leads to achievement.

As proud Doughboys and Doughgirls, we are grateful for leaders who take the time to pour into our students, uplift their voices, and encourage them to dream bigger. These experiences help shape the next generation of leaders right here at Pershing High School.

Pershing Proud! 💙
